Spent pretty much the entire day at St. Lukes with my dad who had a heart cath done on Valentine's Day. Crappy. He's fine - his heart is fixed :)

Knitted a lot, but I'd much rather have happy knitting time than worried knitting time.

I hate my job - the one that pays the bills. I have huge amounts of crap to do and no time with which to get it all finished.

I am trying to finish on clinical trial and one case-control study. I have one clinical trial starting around finals week (oh, goody) that is an industry-sponsored study and I think the other RA bailed so its just me (waaaah!). So MY BOSS, the one person I actually like, decided that I get to do the case investigation and chart abstraction for the outbreak in the neonatal unit (INTERPRETATION: we don't know what the fuck we're looking for, so go read all this charts so we can have a case definition). Fuck.

And I need to write two papers before the end of semester for my lit class. I've figured out why I don't read much of anything written before 1700. It's all boring as hell. Double fuck.

And I have a second job that eats up my time (there are obnoxious customers, but no medical charts so it balances out.) Triple fuck.

In the immortal words of Jeff Luci: "Fuckin' fuck fuck".

So after I figured out how to use Sprint Picture Mail (to the tune of $5/mo), I got the pictures from my phone uploaded and found that there were a number from the inside of my purse. The phone managed to turn the camera on and take pictures of my PDA - also turned on. I had 11 pictures of the inside of my handbag. I think my electronic devices are possessed.

It is 11:45 pm - and the tornado sirens just went off. So after some frantic scrambling to find the remote and get the Weather Channel on, I realized that there's no tornado. Nope - no watches, no warnings, nada. I'm glad I wasn't off to bed, yet, because my windows are open and the air-raid siren is not far away. It is LOUD.

So.....why did the siren go off? Squirrel on the wire, maybe? False alarm? Do we need the little boy to cry "Wolf" a few more times?

Steve Colton's funeral was today - I can honestly say it was one of the best funerals I've ever attended, if a funeral can be good. It was happy and sad and full of good thoughts, unlike others I've been to where the service has been depressing as all get out.

It was also the strangest reunion anyone could have thought possible. And we had all met two years ago when Steve retired. An honor band was present made of Steve's colleagues in music education and some of his former students (who are now band directors in their own right). The pastor, Dr. Chapman, was a former band parent, his three sons having played for Steve. Many of my own classmates were present since our 10 year reunion is tomorrow and Saturday (and we even found a "lost" classmate who hadn't been informed of the reunion; yay Govind for finding him).

It was nice. Sad, because Steve will be missed, but nice.

Steve Colton, my high school band director, died of a heart attack two days ago in Idaho, after vacationing in Yellowstone National Park. He was only 58 - one year younger than my dad. I went to high school (and college in Michelle's case) with his kids. I'm very sad because it's such a waste - but it also worries me a lot because my dad's already got an arrhythmia that's controlled by meds.

Just got back from Conclave (yes, Kate and I really did drive home at night - we got back at about 3am and I'm still a little wired). Great fun was had. I'm spent - off to bed. And it's my bed not some shitty dorm mattress.

Pictures later (maybe)

So, since my parents are awesome they remembered that I was complaining that my cheap (<$20) desk chair at home is not comfortable and it doesn't adjust very well. So they took me birthday shopping for a new one (they're also going to take me clothes shopping later, but that will be after my vacation). It's really cool - it's the right height for my short legs and is made of really modern-looking mesh and has a nice, wide, cushy seat for me since I like to tuck my feet up. It's very nice, my parents are the shit. I was going to get rid of the old chair, except one of my cats, Chaucer, has claimed it for his own. So I guess it's now his chair. Maybe he'll leave me alone while I work if he has his own chair. :P

And I got my hair cut today - it looks good:) Jamie my stylist put some really great anti-frizz product in (called Hair Milk?) before she blow dried it. My hair is so soft now - gotta get some of that stuff when I run through my current stash of anti-frizzies.
